The Green Bay Marathon — State #46 — Was Memorable

I love this “gold” medal with the spinning football from my race on Sunday. And it’s more attractive because the Packers are such an iconic team — excellent, true to its humble roots, fan-owned. Very Bruce Springsteen-like.

My 50 yard line finishes on the 50 yard line in the University of Nebraska stadium two weeks ago and on the goal line in the “We Are Marshall” arena in West Virginia in October were exciting. So when I got hurt training to run 98 laps around a hockey rink in Milwaukee in January and found out that I could finish by running around the famous Lambeau Field, Green Bay became my new Wisconsin choice. Oh, I’m trying to run a marathon in every state.

My next marathon, next weekend near Kansas City, will be my third in 27 days in May.

On Sunday, we started and finished — where else? — at the stadium. We ran on concrete streets through neighborhoods, across a river, along six miles on the town’s bike path, and around the Packers’ original field from 1925. The last 10K was into a stiff breeze. I was pleased to run much better than expected, qualifying for Boston by about 14 minutes. I didn’t know how I would hold up after the injury and resulting light training. And I don’t run that much anyway, usually around 130 miles a month.

I believe that my running and lifting weights gives me the physical strength, endurance, and toughness to fight to make sure that my clients get the compensation that they deserve.
