Fort Worth Truck Collision Turns I-35 Into A Wino’s Dream

A tractor-trailer carrying 41,000 pounds of wine crashed on the northbound side of Interstate 35W a few days ago. According to a report by DallasNews, the accident occurred near Basswood Boulevard just before 5:30 in the morning.

Then the truck caught fire after it crashed, requiring the highway be closed for hours until emergency workers were able to clear the scene. Crews had a difficult time securing the accident scene, since there was no nearby access to water due to the ongoing construction project on I-35W that has turned the highway into a roller derby at times. We are representing several people who have been injured on North 35 in the past few months due crashes caused by the construction.

Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in the truck accident. The driver of the truck was taken into the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police do not know what caused the accident and are currently conducting an investigation to see if they can determine why the truck crashed. There is no indication that the driver of the truck was cited for any traffic violation.

Trucks and Construction Zones Are a Dangerous Mix
While the cause of the accident is undetermined, the accident took place in a construction zone. Construction zones are an especially dangerous place for semi-trucks, for they often involve narrow lanes, frequent stopping, and unexpected turns. For this reason, truck drivers should take extra precautions when they are driving through a marked construction area.

However, truck drivers often fail to take the necessary precautions in construction zones. This can cause accidents in several ways. First, as was the case above, the truck driver can get into an accident himself by running off the road. Second, the truck driver may run another motorist off the road by encroaching into the motorist’s lane.

The second scenario happens frequently in construction zones. A truck seems to be driving in the middle of two narrow lanes, effectively running all other drivers off the road. Just because a truck is large does not give the driver the right to take up the entire road. The truck driver should slow down to a speed where he or she is comfortable navigating the narrower lanes while staying in his or her own lane.

When a truck driver negligently causes an accident, the victims involved in that accident are entitled to recover monetary damages from the truck driver, the trucking company, and likely their insurance company as well.
