Speed and Road Rage May Be to Blame for the Deadly Car Crash
26-year-old Kyle Tilley was tragically killed on just before midnight on Saturday when a Lexus ISF plowed into his Jeep on the Sam Rayburn Tollway in The Colony. His passenger, 25-year-old Nicholas Bass, remains hospitalized with serious injuries. Although the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is still investigating, evidence shows that speed and road rage contributed to the deadly accident.
Mr. Tilley was a popular swim coach at the Lakeside Aquatic Club and an admired substitute teacher at Flower Mound High School. He was described as having a “knack for kids” and loved helping children reach their potential. He took on challenging classroom roles, including teaching children with autism and rowdy kids. He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas and was earning his teaching certificate. He planned on teaching high school history and coaching a high school swim team. What a terrible loss.
Did Speeding, Reckless Driving, and Alcohol Cause the Fatal Accident?
Apparently the Lexus, driven by 19-year-old Wahid Malik of Carrollton, was chasing the Jeep at high speed when the Lexus rammed into the back of Mr. Tilley’s Jeep. Mr. Tilly lost control of the vehicle, which
overturned and rolled down an embankment next to the road. The Lexus also crashed
and caught fire, but surprisingly, the two male occupants of that car were not
severely injured. Isn’t that always the way it goes? And you wonder how a teenager is driving a car with a new retail price of up to $70,000.00 and that can go from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds, don’t you?
Dangerous Driving Statistics
Until the DPS investigation is completed, the family of the victim and the
Flower Mound community will not know exactly what triggered the deadly
crash. However, one thing is obvious, the reckless drivers took Mr.
Tilley’s life in an obnoxious and fully preventable accident.
The National Safety Council (NSC) estimates that speed is involved in approximately one-third of all fatal auto accidents and it is the third leading factor in all crashes. 39 percent of young males between 15 and 20 years old who were killed in car wrecks were speeding. The NSC says that aggressive drivers
often speed, make unnecessary lane changes and tailgate — conduct that seemed to have caused this fatal accident. Since this wreck happened late on a Saturday night, one can surmise that impaired driving caused by alcohol and/or drugs may also be a factor, given the facts here.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the families of Kyle and Nicholas I hope that criminal charges are filed against the other driver, if the evidence shows that he violated Texas driving laws, and that damages are awarded for the victims’ losses.
