Berenson Law Sponsors Kids Run And Healthy Foods Cookoff

I cheered on the large crowd — including our mayor Betsy Price — at the C.A.L.F. 5K Run and Healthy Foods Competiton early Saturday morning at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. My firm was again presenting sponsor. I have also been on the C.A.L.F. Council since the program’s inception in 2009 and I strongly believe in its mission of encouraging our children to be fitter and healthier.

LaDainian Tomlinson’s Support

C..A.L.F. partnered this year with one of the NFL’s and TCU’s greatest football players (#5 in rushing yards in  NFL history), LaDainian Tomlinson, to make the 2014 run and healthy foods competition a huge success. It was an honor to get to meet “LT.”  He was also honored during the afternoon’s big TCU-OU game and must have inspired the team as it knocked off the #4 team in the country.

More than 80 schools and community centers were involved. FitWorth was also a sponsor and another great cause. The highlight was helping accept the whopping check in the amount of $200,000.00 that was presented to the C.A.L.F. program from donations raised by the Cowtown Marathon.

Congratulations to Rufino Mendoza Students Who Participated in the C.A.L.F. Run

Congratulations to the students who participated in the C.A.L.F. run this year. Eric Martinez, who is only 11, placed second in the entire 17-and-under race, his brother Martin placed fourth in his age group (both young men are pictured behind me to the right), and we had other winners. You all did a great job and I am proud of you.

Students from the Rufino Mendoza, Sr. Elementary School,
where I have been a sponsor for 10 years, participate in the C.A.L.F. 5K, Cowtown 5K, and other races every year.  Berenson Law helps pay for race registrations, running shoes, and other expenses. As an avid marathon runner myself, I help the kids prepare for the big day by teaching them about nutrition, giving them race tips, and running with them. What is the C. A.L.F. Program?C.A.L.F.,
which stands for Children’s Activities for Life & Fitness,
encourages kids to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The C.A.L.F. program awards more than 3,300 grants to North Texas
children which goes toward new running shoes and race entrance fees.
Exciting running events create a positive environment for kids to do
their best. Children learn that exercising and making healthy living choices are rewarding.

I want to extend my congratulations to Heidi Swartz, executive director of The Cowtown Marathon, and her staff for working so hard to put on this worthwhile event. and the fantastic C.A.L.F program.
