Toyota Waited Two Years To Announce Latest Recall

Lexus Recall Toyota Crash Fort Worth Bill Berenson Lawyer.jpgToyota knew back in 2008 about the engine problem that prompted its latest Lexus recall. They even changed the spring part to correct it but did not think a recall was warranted until recently, a company official said today.

On Monday, Toyota Motor Corp. started a global recall due to engine defects in its several Lexus models sold around the world. 270,000 vehicles will be recalled to replace valve springs -- crucial engine components that are flawed and could cause vehicles to stall.

In August 2008, Toyota changed the sping, making it thicker, to prevent the problem, according to spokesman Hideaki Homma. That is why this recall does not apply to vehicles produced after that time.

Toyota originally thought that it would only affect a few vehicles, but the complaints started pouring in. Still, it did not start a recall until this week.

Toyota should be ashamed of this behavior. After all the recalls they've made in the past year, they should know by now that they need to act quickly to protect consumers -- innocent victims in Toyota's attempts to save money.

Over the weekend I was contacted by a man whose fiancee's 2005 Toyota accelerated as she was parking and caused her to drive through the front of the couple's home. Toyota needs to acknowledge its mistakes and correct them as quickly as possible.

Fort Worth accident injures two children

A serious crash on U.S. 287 near the intersection of Blue Mound Road near Alliance Airport this morning seriously injured the occupants of the two vehicles involved, including two children who were ejected. They were rushed to Cook Children's Medical Center.

Two adults were rushed to Harris Hospital for treatment.

It is not clear at this point how the wreck happened, but it is possible that the children were not seat belted or restrained by a booster seat. I previously wrote about the new law that became effective on September 1, 2009 that requires drivers with children younger than 8 and shorter than four feet nine inches to secure them in booster seats.

Drivers with children: Obey this law. It will protect your kids -- and save you a lot of money. The second ticket will cost you $250.00.

I'm currently representing a charming mother and her five children who were seriously injured by a careless teenage driver. The teenager drove across the highway median into oncoming traffic and hit my clients head on! The mother and all of her children were rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. thankfully, all of the family survived after several traumatic days at the hospital. One of the daughters was in a booster seat when the wreck occurred. The impact of the wreck was so violent that the seat actually cracked! The booster seat saved the little girls life and allowed her to come away from the accident without any permanent physical injuries. the authorities stated that if she hadn't been in the seat the little girl would have likely died. The guilty drivers insurance company didn't want to pay for all of my clients injuries, so I've recently filed a lawsuit against them. I plan on making the insurance company pay for not cooperating with my clients. I've been able to obtain large verdicts for my clients in the past and I'm confident that I will be able recover the maximum amount for the mother and her five children.

If you or a family member has been the victim of a car accident, call me at (817)885-8000 and I will help you recover the maximum amount for your injuries.

Fort Worth Mother Killed in Recalled Toyota SUV

rollover-suv_20100430082046_640_480.JPGA 33-year-old mother died in a rollover crash in her recalled 2010 Toyota Highlander. Police said speed was a contributing factor to the crash that killed Dawn Casey. Although police are still investigating, family members are not sure if her recalled SUV is to blame. Her two toddlers managed to survive the accident.

The wreck happened Thursday in the 3300 block of North Tarrant Parkway in far north Fort Worth.

Witnesses and family members told investigators that Casey was on her way to teach daycare at a local church when her Toyota Highlander swerved into the center median, then swereved back into the lanes of traffic. She then swerved into a ditch before hitting a concrete barrier.

Casey's 1-year-old son Liam and 3-year-old daughter Adia were in the back row of the SUV in car seats. Both survived with minor injuries.

The 2010 Toyota Highlander is under recall for problems with floor mats that can interfere with the accelerator. I previously reported about the Toyota accelerator problems HERE and HERE. Police are focusing on why the SUV was going so fast, but they don't yet know if vehicle malfunction or driver error is to blame.

If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of a defective vehicle, call my office today at 817-885-8000 to discuss your case. In order to make a successful claim against the vehicle manufacturer, a thorough investigation of the vehicle is needed to preserve the evidence.

North Richland Hills crash kills Hurst resident

An 81 year old Hurst man, James Cantrell, was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon on Davis Boulevard in North Richland Hills after the car he a passenger in crashed into another car, North Richland Hills police said.

His wife, , driving the couple's Toyota, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The Toyota was northbound on Davis when it and a southbound BMW collided. The driver of the BMW fortunately only sustained minor injuries.

Any time now that I hear about a crash involving a Toyota, my first thought now is that it might have been caused due to sudden acceleration. As with any wreck involving recalled vehicles, special care must be taken to preserve evidence for a possible lawsuit against the Toyota Corporation. As I discussed in previous blog posts, beginning with this one, I am evaluating Toyota crashes to determine whether defective electronic modules or other vehicle flaws were to blame.

If you have been hurt as a result of a defective vehicle, especially a Toyota or Lexis, please call me immediately at 817-885-8000.

Toyota Sudden Acceleration Problems Mount

I am investigating whether this horrific crash that nearly killed my wonderful young client was caused by a faulty Toyota accelerator.

Here are the latest developments in what I believe may be the biggest and most deadly corporate cover up of all time:

1. Yesterday Toyota finally added the Prius to its limited list of defective cars that needed to be recalled -- only after one suddenly sped up to more than 90 m.p.h. in San Diego. Prius drivers had already complained 406 times of these sudden and potentially fatal accelerations before this glorified car was recalled.

2. Last week the family of Mark Sayles filed suit, whose Lexus suddenly accelerated to 120 miles per hour on a San Diego interstate last August before tragically crashing and killing this 45 year old police officer, his wife, daughter, and his wife's brother. SEE PREVIOUS STORY.

It was not until their terrifying 911 tape was posted to UTube that Toyota finally began recalling its defective vehicles in September. Toyota has blamed the floor mats for getting tangled up with the gas pedal.

At least 52 people have died and hundreds have been seriously injured in these sudden accelerator crashes.

Toyota Accidents - Call Us

The acceleration and breaking defects on Toyota and Lexus vehicles have been blamed for numerous collisions resulting in injuries and deaths over the past 10 years in the U.S.

Drivers have filed thousands of complaints about 17 Toyota and Lexus models that suddenly accelerated like a rocket. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received more complaints about these supposedly safe vehicles than from any other manufacturer in history.

My firm is investigating cases involving injuries or deaths resulting from the faulty accelerators and breaking systems. If you, a family member, or friend has been involved in a wreck while driving one of the vehicles listed below, you should call as soon as possible to discuss your case.
